The sampler for bulk solids with high moisture content

The sampler is designed to take representative trend samples from pipelines in which moist, adherent, fine-grained materials are conveyed from top to bottom.

In its basic position, the sampling tray is located above the sample outlet funnel and thus laterally outside the main material flow of the pipeline. The open side of the bowl faces down. At the start of sampling, the sampling tray is swivelled so that the openings of the sampling tray point towards the compressed air cleaning nozzles. Now the piston is actuated, which mechanically cleans the inner surfaces of the sampling bowl. In order to increase the cleaning effect, compressed air cleaning nozzles directed to the sampling bowl are additionally actuated and the material released by the piston is blown out of the bowl.

After the cleaning of the tray is completed, the sampling tray is rotated so that the opening of the sample tray is pointing upwards. Now the sampling bowl enters the pipeline. Part of the material conveyed in the pipeline may penetrate through the upward opening into the sampling bowl. At the end of the sampling period, the sampling unit shall be started in the opposite direction and the sampling unit shall be removed from the pipeline.

In the basic position of the sampling unit, the sampling tray shall be emptied. For this purpose, the tray is inverted, the sample material falls out of the tray and is conveyed through the sample outlet funnel into the sample collection container.

The sampler is characterized by a low design and, consequently, a low drop height of the material to be discharged. The sampler shall be designed in such a way that the pipe cross-section is not altered by the installation of the sampler. No part of the sampler protrudes into the interior of the pipeline during the non-sampling periods.

An essential feature of this sampler is the sampling area. Samples shall be taken only from the middle area of the pipeline. For this reason, the samples taken cannot be defined as complete cross-sectional samples.
