Five Belt Conveyors for an Existing Plant

Retrofit in Kombination mit neuen Anlagen

Existing production plants are often expanded with additional equipment, or existing components are replaced with more efficient solutions. Such modifications also affect the existing material feeding system, as demonstrated by this project.

At an existing customer’s site in the bulk materials industry, the production plant is being expanded to include a rotary drum dryer, also known as a rotary dryer. As a result, two existing belt conveyors have to be modified and an additional belt conveyor installed.

The belt conveyor leading to the rotary drum dryer currently terminates inside a building, where the material is transferred to another belt conveyor. To transport the bulk material to be dried into the rotary drum dryer, the existing belt conveyor must be extended beyond the building and the supporting steel structure modified accordingly. Once the bulk material has passed through the rotary drum dryer, a new belt conveyor transports the dried material to a bucket elevator. The belt conveyor downstream of the bucket elevator is an existing conveyor that also has to be extended, with its supporting steel structure modified accordingly.

At this point, however, there were only three belt conveyors – two were still missing. During the course of the project, our scope was expanded to include two additional belt conveyors. Existing drag chain conveyors, which transport the bulk material from the bucket elevator to the silos, were replaced by two new belt conveyors.

The project scope was defined in detail as follows:

  • Analysis of the existing plant, including identification of components suitable for reuse
  • Engineering and design of the conveying equipment and supporting steel structures
  • Manufacturing and procurement of the conveying equipment and steel structures
  • Delivery and installation of the components to be supplied
  • Commissioning of the plant
  • Technical documentation
  • Employee training
